Computing Resources for medical applications
We propose to fund computing and storage resources independently from individual projects by using a small fraction of the yearly Medical Applications material budget. Projects would still be required to be approved via the agreed process.
Given the current level of seed budget allocated to the Medical Applications activities, we consider that an amount of 10% of the available yearly material budget would allow to deploy a reasonably sized pool of resources of the order 1 PB of storage and 1000 cores per year (at today’s price).
The objective is to constitute a quota of resources accessible by Medical Application projects based on their stated needs, but managed according to standard IT Department procurement processes. This approach has many benefits.
