CERN is actively taking part in the fight against COVID-19, identifying solutions to address societal needs and forging a path to the future post-pandemic reality. You too can benefit from the CERN know-how, while navigating to a “new normal”.

The CERN against COVID-19 task force has been established to collect and coordinate ideas and contributions from CERN and the particle physics community, to contribute to the global fight against the pandemic. The CERN Knowledge Transfer Group is strongly supporting the task force, while exploring medium to long-term ways for CERN technologies to be applied to the fight against the outbreak.

Many initiatives are underway that range from the development of High Energy Ventilator (HEV) to enabling CERN computing resources to confront a rapid increase of COVID-19-related data. For example, researchers from around the world can share and showcase all datasets through Zenodo, an open digital repository hosted by CERN.

The pioneering technologies developed at CERN, as well as the human expertise associated with them, can help your business thrive in the post-coronavirus circumstances, as well as enhance your research activities. Now more than ever, CERN’s expertise in health, safety and environmental management may have a pivotal role in developing both practical solutions and game-changing innovations. Furthermore, if you are looking for the means to make your technical information and designs freely available, while retaining the recognition of your intellectual ownership, the CERN Open Hardware Licence (OHL) is a valuable tool that CERN Knowledge Transfer puts at your disposal. For instance, the technical specifications of the newly designed mechanical ventilator (Mechanical Ventilator Milano, MVM), initiated by a collaboration of nuclear and particle physicists in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, will be licensed under the CERN-OHL giving everyone access to the source files.
