CESP 2020: Back With A Bigger Bang!

English

With the continuous rise of entrepreneurship and technological innovations around the world, the CERN Entrepreneurship Student Programme (CESP) is swiftly becoming an important initiative to fuel the growth of future entrepreneurs of the world. A one-of-a-kind five week residency programme, CESP allows students from all over the world to learn from the best scientists and technical experts at CERN through high-quality, hands-on training.

The programme, managed by CERN’s Knowledge Transfer Group is reaching its third edition and is revamping itself into a slightly different, but more impactful programme. Feedback from the participants of previews editions, and from chosen CERN experts, has been crucial to effect some changes into the format of the programme.

This year, for the first time, the programme has introduced a thematic focus on Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning. Under this overarching theme, applicants have been asked to submit a project proposal, detailing the problem they would like to tackle and its technological challenges. In doing so, they were also encouraged to form a team of 2-4 students. This new recommendation was to ensure that students have a greater chance of continuing their projects once they return to their home country.

While this program was scheduled to be held in July and August this year, due to the COVID-19 situation, some additional changes in the schedule and in the number of participants were deemed necessary. We are happy to announce that CESP 2020 will now be held from 19 October to 20 November at CERN for nine enthusiastic students, whose ideas have already attracted much interest from the selection committee.

The current situation has created adverse effects for millions of people around the world, including for employment. Now, more than ever, we need to renew our efforts into helping the young generation develop their interest in STEM and in business alike. Continuing with CESP this year is part of our contribution to help the future generation reach their maximum potential. Keep watching this space for more updates on CESP 2020.
